Washington: A senior U.S. State Department official has conveyed her commitment to ensuring the full implementation of follow-up measures from a joint summit document with South Korea, as communicated by Seoul's foreign ministry.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Allison Hooker, U.S. under secretary of state of political affairs, made this commitment during a meeting with First Vice Foreign Minister Park Yoon-joo in Washington. Vice Minister Park requested Under Secretary Hooker to utilize her expertise in South Korea-U.S. relations to produce "concrete and tangible" outcomes through the planned fact sheet working groups.

Park's request was met with a pledge from Under Secretary Hooker, who assured that she will work towards the faithful execution of these follow-up measures. This assurance was highlighted as a response to Park's call for leveraging her longstanding expertise.

In a previous engagement, Park and U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau agreed on the swift launch of working groups to negotiate follow-ups from the recent leaders' summits. These included discussions on South Korea's interest in nuclear-powered submarines and the pursuit of civil uranium enrichment and spent fuel reprocessing rights.

Park also acknowledged the U.S. announcement of tariff reductions for South Korea, as confirmed by Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, and urged for subsequent actions by relevant U.S. agencies, such as the publication of the tariff change in the Federal Register.

The meeting also included an exchange of views on the current situation on the Korean Peninsula. Both sides agreed to maintain close coordination on policies concerning North Korea, with a focus on the region's denuclearization and encouraging dialogue with North Korea.
