Second ROK-Senegal Policy Consultation to Take Place

1. Deputy Minister for Political Affairs Lee Kyung-soo will hold the second ROK-Senegal Policy Consultation with Amadou Kébé, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Senegal in Seoul on August 28.

2. Deputy Minister Lee and Secretary-General Kébé will engage in an extensive exchange of views on issues of mutual concern, including facilitating high-level exchanges and economic cooperation between the two countries, and other bilateral issues, as well as development cooperation, cooperation on the international stage, and regional situations.

3. In particular, Deputy Minister Lee will note with appreciation that the trade volume between the two countries has more than doubled over the past four years and that Korean companies are increasing their presence in Senegal. The two sides will focus their discussions on ways to expand economic cooperation between the two countries.

4. In addition, Deputy Minister Lee will explore ways to strengthen cooperation on the global stage with Senegal, which, as the chair of the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD), is playing a central role in promoting regional peace and stability in Africa. The two sides will also review the situation regarding the current spread of Ebola in Africa and discuss ways to work together to bring the Ebola outbreak to an end as soon as possible.

5. The second Policy Consultation takes place about four years after the first was held in October, 2010. Following the upcoming Consultation, the dialogue mechanism between the two countries is expected to be operated on a regular basis.
