Incheon: The science ministry on Monday initiated a meeting focused on technology partnerships with members of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), aiming for global coordination rooted in open innovation.
According to Yonhap News Agency, delegations from the 21 APEC member economies convened in Incheon, west of Seoul, for a three-day session of the Policy Partnership on Science, Technology and Innovation (PPSTI). This working group under APEC is dedicated to fostering collaboration in science and technology among its members.
During the event, the ministry announced that South Korea will seek ways to enhance exchanges among researchers and promote innovation through open science. The participants are also set to deliberate on strategies to tackle climate change using science and technology.
The ministry expressed hope that communication and collaboration within the APEC bloc will result in significant advancements in science and technology innovation. In a related development, South Korea hosted a separate ministerial meeting last week among APEC member economies to discuss cooperation in the AI industry.
These events are part of the lead-up to the APEC summit scheduled for October 31 and November 1 in South Korea's southeastern city of Gyeongju, approximately 275 kilometers southeast of Seoul.
