Science Ministry Designates 10 Technologies to Innovate Bio Industry

Seoul: The science ministry announced a groundbreaking initiative, revealing the designation of 10 pivotal technologies poised to revolutionize the bio industry over the next decade. This strategic move underscores the ministry's commitment to advancing biological research and innovation.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the newly spotlighted technologies encompass a diverse array of cutting-edge fields. These include the human immunome, multi-cancer early detection, and ribonucleic acid structurome. Notably, the list also highlights artificial intelligence (AI)-designed gene editors and anti-aging antibodies, signaling a shift towards more predictive and inferential methodologies in bio research.

The ministry elaborated on the transformative potential of these technologies, emphasizing a move away from traditional, repetitive experimental approaches. This paradigm shift, driven by AI-based prediction and inference, is expected to significantly impact various sectors such as medical, space, and manufacturing industries within the next five to ten years.

Hwang Pan-sik, head of the office of R and D policy at the science ministry, stated, "The science ministry will work to develop promising technologies, and create a research and development (R and D) infrastructure to help the country become a first mover in the advanced biology industry." This initiative reflects the ministry's strategic vision to foster innovation and position the nation at the forefront of global biological advancements.
