Samsung Unveils HVAC Research Lab in Hokkaido for Extreme Weather Solutions

Asahikawa: Samsung Electronics Co. announced the inauguration of a new heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) research lab in northern Japan, aimed at developing heating solutions for harsh weather conditions. The lab is strategically located in Asahikawa, Hokkaido, where temperatures can plummet to minus 20 degrees Celsius during winter, providing an ideal environment for testing defrost and heat pump systems.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Samsung's new facility will focus on advancing technology and conducting tests to develop a more efficient defrosting system. This initiative is part of Samsung's broader strategy to enhance its HVAC technology and address the increasing demand for effective heating solutions in regions with extreme winter climates.

In addition to its efforts in Japan, Samsung Electronics has been strengthening its collaborations with European partners, including the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden. These partnerships are part of Samsung's plan to expand its footprint in the global HVAC market and capitalize on the growing demand for heat pumps from residential consumers.

Moon Jong-seung, head of Samsung's digital appliances division, emphasized the company's commitment to expanding its presence in the HVAC sector globally and establishing new avenues for growth.
