Seoul: Samsung Electronics Co. announced it will commence the construction of its second semiconductor fabrication plant, Taylor Fab 2, at its Taylor, Texas facility at the end of this year. The world's largest memory chipmaker revealed this plan during a conference call discussing its earnings report. The company aims to start production in this new facility by 2030.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Samsung is preparing to initiate construction of Taylor Fab 2 within 2026. Meanwhile, the construction of Taylor Fab 1 is advancing as planned, with operations expected to commence in 2026. Samsung plans to incrementally expand production capacity for its 2-nanometer process technology once the facility becomes operational.

Samsung indicated that there is growing customer interest in the 1.4-nanometer process. The company is reviewing plans to secure additional fabrication capacity, with detailed plans to be developed in stages based on customer orders and discussions. Moreover, Samsung is transitioning mature processes toward more profitable 3-nanometer production, focusing resources on high-value specialty products with significant technological barriers.
