Seoul: Samsung Group said Wednesday it has sent gifts to employees and their families stationed in the Middle East for their work during times of heightened regional tensions.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the initiative was proposed by Samsung Electronics Co. Chairman Lee Jae-yong and was carried out Tuesday for some 500 employees and their families residing in the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia. Employees were given either a Galaxy Book 6 Pro laptop or a package consisting of a Galaxy S26 Ultra smartphone and a Galaxy Tab S11 tablet. Family members were offered vouchers that can be used at small local businesses.

The total value of the gifts is estimated at around 5 million won (US$3,338) per employee and family. Samsung has relocated most of its workers in the region back to South Korea or to third countries, except for essential staff, as the Middle East conflict has persisted.

"I extend my deepest sympathy to employees and their families who are going through difficulties due to the unexpected situation in the Middle East," said Lee in a message of appreciation to employees and their families.
