Samsung Secures U.S. Grant for Energy-Efficient Dryer Technology

Seoul: Samsung Electronics Co. announced it has secured a grant from the U.S. government to collaborate with two U.S. research institutions in developing energy-saving technology for clothes dryers.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the U.S. Department of Energy will allocate US$1.2 million to Samsung Electronics, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and the University of South Carolina for the initiative. The project will employ desiccants to enhance dryer performance. The three entities involved will also contribute an additional $1.2 million collectively to the project.

The primary goal of the study is to achieve a reduction in energy consumption by up to 35 percent compared to vented dryer models that emit humid air to expedite drying. Samsung Electronics indicated that the innovative dryer technology will be engineered to be installed without requiring separate construction work, enabling more adaptable installation in various housing scenarios.

Samsung Electronics emphasized that the research project provides a tangible opportunity to transform innovative energy-saving technology into practical solutions for consumers.
