Seoul: Samsung SDI Co. on Monday reported its fourth-quarter net loss of 207.8 billion won (US$142.4 million), remaining in the red compared with a year ago. The company announced in a regulatory filing that it continued to post an operating loss of 299.2 billion won for the October-December period, compared with a loss of 256.7 billion won a year earlier. Sales, however, showed a slight increase of 2.8 percent, reaching 3.85 trillion won.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the reported loss was 20.6 percent lower than the average estimate, based on a survey conducted by Yonhap Infomax, the financial data firm of Yonhap News Agency. Despite the continued financial challenges, the figures indicate a somewhat better performance than what analysts had anticipated.
