Samsung Lions Re-Sign Park Jin-man as Manager with Two-Year Deal

Seoul: The Samsung Lions announced Monday they have re-signed manager Park Jin-man on the heels of back-to-back postseason appearances in the Korea Baseball Organization.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the Lions stated that Park, whose previous three-year contract expired this season, agreed to a new two-year deal, with an option for a third season, worth up to 2.3 billion won (US$1.6 million). Park received a 500 million-won signing bonus, and his salary will be 500 million won per season. He can make an additional 100 million per season in incentives, as per the team's announcement.

Park, 48, initially assumed the role of interim manager for the Lions in August 2022 and was promoted to the full-time position ahead of the 2023 season. Although the Lions missed the postseason in Park's first year, finishing eighth among 10 teams with a record of 61-82-1, they made significant progress in 2024. The team rose to second place with a record of 78-64-2 and concluded as the runners-up to the Kia Tigers in the Korean Series.

This year, the Lions secured the fourth position in the regular season, with a record of 74-68-2, and successfully advanced through two stages before falling to the Hanwha Eagles in the penultimate round of the postseason. This marked the Lions' first consecutive trips to the playoffs in a decade.

The Lions emphasized Park's leadership skills and his success in developing young position players over the past three years, which has transformed the Lions into a sustainable contender.
