Seoul: Samsung Heavy Industries Co. announced that it has secured a 721.1 billion-won (US$499 million) contract to construct two liquefied natural gas (LNG) vessels for a shipper in Oceania. The company confirmed that these ships are slated for delivery to the undisclosed client by September 2028.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the deal, finalized on Wednesday, marks a significant achievement for Samsung Heavy Industries, with the company having received orders worth US$7.9 billion in 2025. This figure surpasses the previous year's total orders of US$7.3 billion. As of the end of 2025, the shipbuilder's order backlog consisted of 133 ships, collectively valued at $28.6 billion.

A company official stated, "We exceeded expectations last year by focusing on winning orders for high value-added vessels." The official further noted the anticipation of a consistent influx of orders, driven by the recovering demand for LNG carriers throughout the year.
