Samsung Heavy Secures 268 Billion-Won Contract for Oil Tankers

Samsung: Samsung Heavy Industries Co. announced it has secured a contract valued at 268 billion won (US$187.7 million) to construct two oil tankers.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Samsung Heavy disclosed in a regulatory filing that the agreement was signed with an unnamed European client, with the vessel deliveries scheduled for completion by August 2029. This deal contributes to Samsung Heavy's successful year, as it has already secured contracts totaling US$5.8 billion for the construction of 34 commercial vessels, surpassing its annual target of US$5.7 billion.

In addition to the oil tanker order, Samsung Heavy's cumulative orders for the year include two floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) production, storage, and offloading facilities. These combined efforts have resulted in 2023 orders reaching US$10.2 billion, which constitutes 73 percent of the company's overall annual target.
