Seoul: Samsung Heavy Industries Co. announced Thursday that it has secured a contract valued at 1.92 trillion won (US$1.38 billion) to deliver seven container ships to an Asian client. These vessels are scheduled to be delivered sequentially by November 2029.

According to Yonhap News Agency, this significant order contributes to Samsung Heavy's achievements in its commercial ship division, bringing the total orders for the year to $6.1 billion. This figure surpasses the company's annual target of $5.8 billion for commercial vessel orders. The company's success this year includes contracts for 39 vessels, comprising seven liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers, nine shuttle tankers, and nine container ships.

A company official stated, "We will continue to pursue a profitability-focused order strategy while securing high-quality and stable workloads in the commercial ship sector." This strategic approach aims to enhance Samsung Heavy's position in the competitive shipbuilding market.
