Seoul: Samsung Heavy Industries Co. has announced the delivery of a virtual reality (VR) training solution to Taiwan's Evergreen Marine Corp. aimed at supporting the operations of the shipping company's eco-friendly container vessels.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the VR solution is intended to help crew members become acquainted with dual-fuel methanol-powered ships in a controlled, simulated environment before they are deployed at sea. The advanced platform, constructed using three-dimensional design data, allows sailors to engage with ship systems and practice responding to emergency scenarios like fuel leaks and onboard fires.

Samsung Heavy Industries highlighted that the introduction of this system is set to improve safety measures while also reducing operational risks and maintenance costs that can arise from equipment malfunctions. Furthermore, both Samsung Heavy and Evergreen Marine plan to continue their collaboration on autonomous navigation technologies, particularly focusing on Samsung's Smart Autonomous Ship (SAS) platform.
