Samsung Epis Holdings Targets Expansion to 20 Biosimilars by 2030

San francisco: Samsung Epis Holdings, the parent company of biosimilar drug developer Samsung Bioepis Co., has set an ambitious target to expand its biosimilar offerings to 20 products by the year 2030. This strategic plan was disclosed by the company on Thursday, highlighting its commitment to significantly broaden its product lineup in the biosimilar market.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Kim Kyung-ah, who serves as both president and CEO of Samsung Epis Holdings, unveiled this plan during the 44th J.P. Morgan Healthcare Conference in San Francisco, which took place on Wednesday local time. In a statement released by the company, Kim emphasized their aggressive approach to expanding the biosimilar portfolio over the next decade. The CEO also mentioned that six additional candidates are currently being developed as part of their biosimilar pipeline.

Presently, Samsung Epis Holdings has a portfolio of 11 biosimilar drugs, including Adalloce for inflammatory conditions and Obodence for osteoporosis and other bone-related diseases, which are available in over 40 countries. This expansion reflects the company's ongoing efforts to increase its presence and impact in the global biosimilar market.

In addition to its biosimilar initiatives, Samsung Epis recently received investigational new drug (IND) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for SBE303, marking its first foray into novel therapeutic candidates. SBE303, an antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) intended for the treatment of solid tumors, is scheduled to enter Phase 1 first-in-human clinical trials within the year, as per the company's announcement.

Kim further explained that while expanding their biosimilar offerings, Samsung Epis is also focusing on advancing their ADC development, aiming to leverage their research and development platform to provide new treatment options for patients with unmet medical needs. This dual focus on biosimilars and ADCs underscores the company's dedication to innovation and patient care.
