Seoul: The market capitalization of top-cap Samsung Electronics Co. surpassed 2 quadrillion won (US$1.32 trillion) for the first time Monday, the bourse operator said.

According to Yonhap News Agency, as of 11:44 a.m., Samsung Electronics shares were trading at 346,500 won, marking an increase of 9.31 percent from the previous session on the benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index, as reported by the Korea Exchange (KRX). At this time, the company's market capitalization stood at 2,025.7 trillion won.

Last month, the chipmaking giant achieved a market capitalization milestone by surpassing 1.5 quadrillion won, becoming the second Asian company to exceed the US$1 trillion mark after Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Meanwhile, its chipmaking competitor, SK hynix, had a market capitalization of 1,689.8 trillion won as of the same time on Monday, according to the KRX.
