Seoul: Samsung Electronics Co.'s next-generation dynamic random-access memory (DRAM), known as GDDR7, has been awarded a presidential accolade at a prominent tech exhibition, recognizing its state-of-the-art technology tailored for the artificial intelligence (AI) sector, the company announced on Wednesday. The South Korean tech leader highlighted that its 24-gigabit GDDR7 DRAM received the prestigious award during the Korea Tech Festival 2025, which commenced in Seoul for a three-day event.

According to Yonhap News Agency, GDDR7 stands out compared to high bandwidth memory (HBM) products due to its enhanced cost and energy efficiency, coupled with a lightweight design. This makes it particularly appealing for AI servers, especially with the escalating demand for generative graphic content. Industry experts anticipate that Samsung Electronics' collaboration with U.S. tech powerhouse Nvidia Corp. will likely strengthen the market presence of Samsung's GDDR7.

Kim Dong-won, a researcher at KB Securities Co., noted, "The production capacity of Samsung Electronics' production line in Pyeongtaek is set to more than double as Nvidia recently asked Samsung to expand supplies of GDDR7 products." This development aligns with Samsung's strategic efforts to amplify its memory business, which included launching a new organization dedicated to memory development during a corporate reshuffle in November.
