Changwon: The son of Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong is set to be commissioned as a Navy officer after completing 11 weeks of training as an officer candidate. Lee Jee-ho, 24, will join 89 new Navy and Marine Corps officers in a ceremony at the Naval Academy in Changwon, approximately 380 kilometers southeast of Seoul.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the commissioning ceremony is scheduled to commence at 2 p.m. and will be attended by Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Kang Dong-gil, alongside families of the newly appointed officers, including the Samsung chairman. Although Lee Jae-yong missed his son's training commencement ceremony in September, he reportedly plans to attend the commissioning ceremony to personally attach an ensign's rank insignia to Lee Jee-ho. The younger Lee's mother, Lim Se-ryeong, vice chairperson of Daesang Holdings, is also expected to be present, while his younger sister Lee Won-joo is anticipated to be absent.

Born in the United States in 2000, Lee Jee-ho renounced his U.S. citizenship to fulfill his military duty as an officer. During the commissioning ceremony, he will lead the cadets as a representative of his class. Navy officials noted that Lee Jee-ho got along well with his fellow cadets and actively participated in training. He is set to serve as an interpreter officer.
