Seoul: Samsung Electro-Mechanics on Thursday reported its first-quarter net profit of 252.7 billion won (US$170 million), marking a 78.4 percent increase from the same period last year. The company disclosed in a regulatory filing that its operating profit for the January-March period also rose by 39.9 percent year-on-year to 280.6 billion won. In addition, revenue saw a 17.2 percent rise, reaching 3.2 trillion won.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the company's earnings surpassed market expectations. Analysts had projected a net profit of 203.4 billion won, based on a survey conducted by Yonhap Infomax, the financial data firm of Yonhap News Agency.
