Seoul: Samsung E and A Co., the plant engineering division of the Samsung Group, has announced a 23 billion-won (US$15.7 million) contract for initial design and planning in a sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) project in Louisiana. The deal, signed with DG Fuels, involves front-end engineering design (FEED) work focused on hydrogen and power generation packages, expected to span approximately 10 months.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Samsung E and A aims to expand its involvement by securing additional contracts for the main SAF project, which is estimated to be worth about $3 billion. The project plans to construct facilities in St. James, Louisiana, designed to produce 600,000 tons of SAF annually, utilizing biomass and other organic materials sourced locally.
This agreement follows Samsung E and A's previous SAF contract valued at 1.4 trillion won in Malaysia, signed late last year, marking a strategic move to broaden its green energy business portfolio. A Samsung E and A official stated, "We will seek to secure follow-on contracts for the main project by successfully completing the FEED. This will help solidify our position in North America, a new market we are focusing on, and expand our participation in energy transition projects."
