Seoul: Samsung Display Co. has reached a settlement with China's BOE Technology Group Co. over technology infringement involving organic light-emitting diode (OLED) displays, ending a nearly three-year dispute in the South Korean company's favor, sources said Wednesday. The resolution marks the conclusion of a contentious period that saw significant legal actions between the two technology giants.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC), which was originally set to deliver a final verdict this week, announced Thursday (U.S. time) that it is suspending the case involving Samsung Display and BOE. This development follows Samsung Display's legal actions against BOE, including a complaint for copyright infringement filed in December 2022 and a separate trade secret violation complaint lodged in October 2023.

Although the specifics of the withdrawal have not been disclosed, industry watchers suggest that BOE has likely agreed to pay royalties for utilizing Samsung Display's technology. This agreement comes after the ITC issued a preliminary ruling in July, imposing a ban on imports of BOE's OLED panels into the United States for 14 years and eight months under a "limited exclusion order."
