Samsung and KT Validate 6G AI-RAN on Commercial Network

Seoul: Samsung Electronics Co. and KT Corp. have successfully demonstrated the viability of 6G artificial intelligence radio access network (AI-RAN) technology on KT's commercial network, confirming its stable operation in real-world conditions. This achievement marks a significant step forward in the development and deployment of next-generation communication technologies.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the field test was a collaborative effort between Samsung Research and KT's Future Network Laboratory. It involved approximately 18,000 users in select areas of Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, where varying environmental conditions were present. This marks the first successful demonstration of the technology on a live commercial network, following a simulation-based verification completed in June.

The AI-RAN technology automatically configures optimal settings for each user and utilizes AI to help avoid connectivity issues. As the industry braces for the 6G era, where data usage is expected to increase significantly, AI-RAN optimization is seen as essential.

Jeong Jin-guk, executive vice president of Samsung Research at Samsung Electronics, emphasized the importance of this achievement. "This is a major milestone that shows how AI can improve user experience on real-world commercial networks," he stated. Jeong also highlighted the ongoing collaboration with KT to further shape and validate AI-driven communication technologies.
