S. Korea’s top nuclear envoy to visit D.C. for talks on N. Korea

SEOUL, South Korea's chief nuclear envoy will travel to Washington D.C. this week for consultations on North Korea, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced Tuesday.

Lee Do-hoon, representative for Korean Peninsula peace and security affairs at Seoul's foreign ministry, plans to hold meetings with U.S. officials between Wednesday and Saturday.

They include Alex Wong, deputy assistant secretary of state for East Asian and Pacific affairs, and Matthew Pottinger, National Security Council senior director for Asian affairs.

"There will be consultations and coordination on a working level" to materialize ways to denuclearize the peninsula and establish a peace regime on the basis of the results of Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's trip to Pyongyang last week, according to the ministry.
