S. Korea’s 3,000-Ton Submarine Returns After Successful Joint Drills with U.S.

Seoul: The ROKS Ahn Mu, a 3,000-ton submarine built with indigenous technology, has returned to South Korea following a successful monthlong joint anti-submarine exercise with the United States. The Navy announced the submarine's arrival on Tuesday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the Ahn Mu participated in the Silent Shark exercise, which began on November 18 in the waters off Guam. The exercise was designed to enhance operational readiness and improve interoperability between the two nations' naval forces. This marks the first instance of a 3,000-ton class submarine taking part in an overseas joint exercise.

Throughout the drills, the Ahn Mu traveled approximately 7,000 kilometers and was involved in various exercises including submarine detection, attack drills, and airborne anti-submarine warfare training. Notably, the Navy accommodated a Canadian submariner aboard the Ahn Mu for the first time during these exercises.
