Seoul: South Korea's Navy and Marine Corps are set to participate in the biennial multinational Talisman Sabre exercise in Australia next month. The exercise aims to enhance operational capabilities in collaboration with forces from 18 other nations, as announced by the South Korean Navy.

According to Yonhap News Agency, approximately 840 South Korean personnel, including members from the Navy, Marine Corps, and the Army's special operations forces, will be involved in the exercise. Scheduled from July 3 to July 27, the exercise will take place in a northeastern region of Australia.

South Korea will deploy the 14,500-ton ROKS Marado amphibious landing ship, the 4,400-ton ROKS Wang Geon destroyer, a Lynx helicopter, the K9 self-propelled howitzer, and the Chunmoo multiple rocket launcher system. This year's exercise, co-hosted by the United States and Australia, will see participation from approximately 30,000 troops, about 30 vessels, and 70 aircraft from 19 countries, including Britain, France, and Japan.

The South Korean Navy first joined the Talisman Sabre exercise in 2021, with the Marine Corps joining in 2023. This year marks the inaugural participation of the Army's special operations forces. For the first time, South Korea will engage in combined space operations training and will assume the role of commander for combined amphibious landing drills during the exercise.
