S. Korean Golfers Kim Si-woo and Im Sung-jae Prepare for PGA Championship

Newtown square: Two seasoned South Korean golfers, Kim Si-woo and Im Sung-jae, are set to compete in the PGA Championship this week, marking the second major event of the season. The tournament, taking place at the par-70 Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania, will run from Thursday through Sunday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Kim Si-woo has had an impressive run this year with six top-10 finishes in 13 events on the PGA Tour. He stands at 10th on the money list, having earned $4,838,855, and is ranked seventh in the FedEx Cup standings, the highest for a player without a victory this year. Despite his success on the tour, Kim has struggled in major championships, managing only one top-10 finish in 35 starts, achieved at the 2025 PGA Championship.

Kim, a four-time tour winner, is known for his exceptional ball striking, compensating for a lack of distance with accuracy. However, his putting has been inconsistent. In the initial rounds of the PGA Championship, Kim will be grouped with Derek Berg and Joe Highsmith from the United States.

Im Sung-jae, a two-time PGA Tour winner, ranks 67th globally and had a slow start to the 2026 season due to a wrist injury. After missing the cuts in his first two tournaments, he showed promise by leading at the halfway mark of the Truist Championship, ultimately finishing tied for fifth. Despite having four career top-10 finishes at major tournaments, Im has yet to secure one at the PGA Championship, having missed five cuts in seven appearances.

Im, who has shown prowess in putting but has seen a decline in ball striking, will compete alongside Austin Hurt of the United States and Casey Jarvis of South Africa during the first two rounds.

Joining Kim and Im at the PGA Championship is Yang Yong-eun, the 2009 champion famous for overcoming Tiger Woods to claim his sole major title. Yang currently competes on the PGA Tour Champions, the over-50 circuit.
