Seoul: South Korea's foreign ministry has informed foreign missions in Seoul about a change in the acting presidency following the resignation of acting President Han Duck-soo, according to government officials.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent a letter to diplomatic missions in South Korea, indicating that Finance Minister and Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Choi Sang-mok will take over as acting president starting at midnight Thursday. The letter assured that South Korea's diplomatic direction and policy philosophy will remain consistent.

Earlier in the day, Han Duck-soo, who had been serving as both acting president and prime minister, resigned, declaring his intention to run in the upcoming presidential election on June 3. The election was prompted by the ouster of former President Yoon Suk Yeol.
