S. Korean diplomat picked as chair of ILO’s gov’t group

SEOUL,South Korea's ambassador to Geneva was picked as the chairperson of the International Labor Organization (ILO)'s government group, Seoul's foreign ministry said Monday.

In an ILO meeting in Geneva earlier in the day, Paik Ji-ah, the sole candidate, won the seat by consensus without a vote. The post has been vacant since her predecessor, Choi Kyong-lim, finished his ambassadorial term and returned home earlier this year.

The ILO is a United Nations agency in charge of labor issues, setting global labor standards and providing work opportunities. Its government group mediates between labor, company and government parties at the ILO.
