Seoul: U.S. President Donald Trump has extended an invitation to South Korea to join his proposed Board of Peace for Gaza, an initiative aimed at fostering peace and reconstruction in the conflict-stricken region. The South Korean foreign ministry announced that the invitation is currently "under review."

According to Yonhap News Agency, Trump has reached out to approximately 60 countries, including major players such as Canada, France, Turkey, China, and Israel, as well as the European Union, to participate in the peace-building initiative. The invitation was also extended to Russian President Vladimir Putin, signaling a broad international effort to address the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

A foreign ministry official in Seoul stated, "The invitation was received only recently and a decision on participation will be made after taking into account which countries will be involved." The official emphasized that the review process will take time as South Korea evaluates the potential implications and collaborations involved in the initiative.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has expressed opposition to the proposal, highlighting concerns that it was not coordinated with Israel, a key party in the conflict in the Palestinian territory. This opposition underscores the complex dynamics and challenges involved in establishing a unified international approach to peace in Gaza.
