Seoul: South Korea's presidential artificial intelligence (AI) committee engaged in discussions on Wednesday with Anthropic, a global developer of large language models, to explore the safe utilization of AI technology.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Im Moon-young, vice chair of the National AI Strategy Committee, held a meeting in Seoul with Ben Mann, a co-founder of Anthropic, the company behind the AI assistant Claude. Mann highlighted that South Korea is among the top five nations in terms of Claude users and revealed Anthropic's plan to establish an office in South Korea by early 2026.
Mann expressed Anthropic's commitment to fostering the secure dissemination of AI in the country while enhancing the competitiveness of local startups and businesses. In response, Im emphasized the importance of safely deploying AI technology to support the government's vision of an AI-driven society. He also extended an offer to collaborate closely with Anthropic on the proposed establishment of the new office.
