Seoul: SK Shieldus Co., a South Korean cybersecurity company, announced on Tuesday that cyberthreats involving artificial intelligence technologies are projected to rise next year, urging for enhanced cybersecurity measures within the corporate sector. The company identified AI-related threats, evolving ransomware attacks, and assaults on cryptocurrency markets as major cybersecurity challenges for 2025 during a press event held in Seoul. According to Yonhap News Agency, SK Shieldus emphasized the potential growth of backdoor attacks using deepfake technology. Backdoor attacks are methods used to gain unauthorized access to a system by bypassing standard authentication processes. Lee Ho-seok, who leads a qualified security team at SK Shieldus, highlighted the increasing threat of such attacks. This year, the Asia-Pacific region reported a total of 2,130 cyberattack incidents, as per Verizon. In September, SK Shieldus partnered strategically with the U.S. telecommunications company to bolster their competiti veness in the global cybersecurity market. SK Shieldus' CEO, Hong Won-pyo, remarked that cyberthreats have evolved into a management risk for companies, urging them to focus more on cybersecurity issues, including data protection and AI-related vulnerabilities.
