Seoul: South Korea has completed the development of the country's first small satellite constellation, which is set to be launched on the Nuri rocket in October, announced the space agency. A pre-shipment review was held on Thursday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the group of spacecraft is part of South Korea's initiative to operate 10 lightweight satellites for high-precision observation of the Korean Peninsula and its surrounding waters. The Korea Aerospace Agency (KASA) stated that the satellites would be equipped with an electro-optical camera with a spatial resolution ranging from 1m to 4m.

The five satellites represent South Korea's first mass-produced earth observation satellites utilizing commercial off-the-shelf parts. A prototype was previously launched in April 2024. KASA emphasized that the satellites demonstrate South Korea's advancing satellite production capacity and committed to enhancing the country's competitiveness in the space industrial sector.
