Seoul: Senior diplomats from South Korea and the United States are scheduled to meet this week in Washington to engage in discussions centered around economic and industrial cooperation as part of a bilateral trade and investment agreement, the State Department announced on Tuesday.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the talks will be spearheaded by South Korea's Second Vice Foreign Minister Kim Jina and U.S. Under Secretary of State for Economic Affairs Jacob Helberg. The meeting, known as the Senior Economic Dialogue (SED), is set to take place on Wednesday. This dialogue comes in the wake of a joint fact sheet released on November 13, which details the bilateral agreements relating to trade, investment, and security that were finalized during the second summit between South Korean President Lee Jae Myung and U.S. President Donald Trump in late October.
The State Department emphasized that the forthcoming SED highlights the United States' dedication to promoting a forward-thinking agenda within the bilateral alliance. This alliance is considered crucial for maintaining peace, security, and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula and throughout the broader Indo-Pacific region.
