Omaha: The veterans ministry of South Korea is set to sign a preliminary agreement with a U.S. Defense Department agency to enhance collaboration on matters concerning U.S. service members who participated in the Korean War from 1950 to 1953.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the ministry will enter into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the U.S. Department of Defense's POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) in Omaha on Friday, with the goal of strengthening cooperation on veterans affairs. This agreement aims to facilitate exchange programs for the families of U.S. service members who lost their lives during the war, organize commemorative events, and broaden collaboration through information sharing and other joint efforts.

The signing ceremony is expected to draw a crowd of approximately 500 attendees, including Vice Veterans Minister Kang Yun-jin, and family members of prisoners of war and service members who remain missing in action. The Korean War saw the involvement of over 1.78 million U.S. troops, with 36,574 killed in action and 7,359 still unaccounted for, as reported by the ministry.
