S. Korea and U.S. Conduct Joint Drill on Nuclear, Radiological Terror Responses

Seoul: South Korea and the United States began a two-day joint drill on Monday focused on countering nuclear and radiological terrorism. The exercise is part of ongoing efforts to enhance nuclear security cooperation, as stated by the foreign ministry.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the event, named the fourth Winter Tiger, is set to continue through Tuesday in Seoul. Approximately 120 officials from relevant agencies of both countries are participating in the drill. The exercise is structured around a scenario involving a radiological terrorism incident in Seoul, allowing participants to review joint response capabilities and assess the roles of involved agencies.

The Winter Tiger initiative, which was launched in 2017, aims to bolster bilateral cooperation and improve the ability to counter nuclear and radiological terrorism. The drill is spearheaded by South Korea's foreign ministry, with support from the U.S. Department of War and the Department of Energy.
