S. Korea and Indonesia Sign MOU to Advance AI and Digital Development

Seoul: South Korea and Indonesia have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to expand cooperation in the artificial intelligence (AI) industry and address global issues using related technology, according to the science ministry.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the agreement was made during Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto's three-day state visit to South Korea. The MOU was signed by South Korea's Ministry of Science and ICT and Indonesia's Ministry of Communications and Digital Affairs. The focus of the agreement is to promote exchanges in various areas linked to the AI industry, including digital policies, next-generation communication technology, and information protection.

The two nations also announced the launch of the Global AI Universal Basic Society Solidarity Initiative. This initiative aims to address global challenges in sectors such as health care and education by strengthening ties in the AI ecosystem. A joint committee on digital development will be established to facilitate joint research projects and the exchange of experts.

Science Minister Bae Kyung-hoon emphasized the importance of this agreement, stating that South Korea and Indonesia have agreed to create an official communication channel for the science, technology, and communication sectors. This move follows a bilateral summit and seeks to foster solidarity in the global basic AI community. Bae highlighted the intention of both countries to play a leading role in addressing global AI-related agendas through mutually beneficial cooperation.
