S. Korea and ASEAN Launch $30 Million Digital Innovation Project


Seoul: South Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT announced on Thursday the commencement of a five-year joint project with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), valued at US$30 million, aimed at promoting digital innovation across the ASEAN region.



According to Yonhap News Agency, the details of the ambitious project will be discussed during the ASEAN Digital Ministers Meeting, which spans two days and concludes on Friday. The initiative seeks to leverage South Korea’s advanced digital technologies to aid ASEAN nations in their digital transformation journey and stimulate economic growth.



The collaborative effort will see a joint investment of $30 million from both parties’ cooperation funds through 2029. This investment will be directed towards establishing data and advanced computing infrastructure within the region. Additionally, the funds will support the development of human resources and artificial intelligence (AI) solutions.



Second Vice Science Minister Kang Do-hyun emphasized the urgency of digital transformation for fostering sustainable and innovative growth in a press release. Concurrently, Kang is participating in a trilateral meeting with counterparts from the United States and Japan to explore cooperation in AI and other sectors, as reported by the ministry.
