Wonsan: Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has concluded his three-day visit to North Korea, departing from the eastern coastal city of Wonsan. Lavrov left the country through Wonsan Kalma Airport, where he was seen off by North Korean Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui and Russia's top envoy in Pyongyang.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Lavrov's visit included a meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un on Saturday. During their talks on Kim's yacht in Wonsan, Kim expressed his "unconditional" support for Russia's actions in Ukraine. The discussions also included a second round of strategic dialogue with Lavrov's North Korean counterpart, focusing on advancing the bilateral relationship into long-term strategic ties through the implementation of a mutual defense treaty.
Experts indicate that North Korea's invitation to Lavrov could be a strategic move to showcase the newly opened tourist zone in Wonsan and potentially draw Russian tourists. Following his visit to North Korea, Lavrov proceeded to China to participate in a foreign ministerial meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization member states.
