Seoul: A delegation led by a senior official from the Russian state-run media group Rossiya Segodnya has arrived in Pyongyang, as reported by North Korea's state media. This visit marks a significant development in the ongoing cooperation between Russia and North Korea across various sectors.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the delegation, headed by Sergei Kochetkov, the first deputy editor-in-chief of Rossiya Segodnya, reached Pyongyang the day before the announcement. The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) noted that the delegation was welcomed by officials from both KCNA and the Russian Embassy in North Korea.

The visit is seen as part of the broader effort to strengthen ties between Pyongyang and Moscow. Discussions are expected to focus on establishing a bureau for the Russian media group in Pyongyang and deploying correspondents, which aligns with the recent trend of enhanced bilateral relations. This follows the withdrawal of foreign correspondents from North Korea in 2020, when Pyongyang shut its borders due to the pandemic. However, February saw a reversal of this trend, with Chinese media reporters resuming their posts in North Korea for the first time in five years.

Rossiya Segodnya, known for its global reach, provides news in over 30 languages and maintains a presence in 128 cities worldwide. Its prominent brands include Sputnik and RIA Novosti, reflecting its influential role in international media.
