Seoul: The ruling People Power Party has requested increased personal protection for its leader, Han Dong-hoon, following the recent brief declaration of martial law. This request comes amid concerns for Han’s safety, as rumors circulate about an ‘arrest squad’ allegedly being dispatched to detain him.
According to Yonhap News Agency, a party official remarked on the heightened security measures, stating, “We’ve beefed up security for him from our side but also requested personnel from the police.” The call for additional protection follows claims by the main opposition Democratic Party that martial law troops attempted to arrest National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-shik, as well as leaders from both the ruling and opposition parties, during an incursion into the parliamentary building on Tuesday.
Han Dong-hoon reportedly raised objections with President Yoon Suk Yeol over the purported deployment of an arrest squad during a meeting at the presidential office on Wednesday. In response, President Yoon suggested
that if such actions occurred, they were likely carried out under the authority of the martial law decree.
