Renault Korea’s January Sales Decline by 2 Percent Due to Weak Domestic Demand

Busan: Renault Korea Motors Co., the South Korean unit of France’s Renault S.A., reported a 2.2 percent decrease in sales for January compared to the same month last year, citing weak domestic demand as the primary factor.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Renault Korea sold a total of 3,732 vehicles in January, down from 3,817 units in the previous year. The decline was primarily driven by a significant 13.9 percent drop in domestic sales, which fell to 2,239 units. In contrast, the company’s exports saw a robust increase of 22.8 percent, reaching 1,493 units.

The carmaker highlighted that the Grand Koleos and Arkana sport utility vehicles (SUVs) were key contributors to the export figures, with 977 and 516 units exported, respectively. Domestically, the Grand Koleos SUV emerged as the best-selling model, with sales totaling 1,663 units.

Renault Korea Motors also announced that it has commenced production of its latest flagship SUV, the Filante, at its facility in the southeastern port city of Busan. The new model is slated for launch in March, marking a significant addition to the company’s lineup.
