Seoul: Renault Korea Co., the South Korean arm of the French automotive giant Renault S.A., has announced an ambitious plan to introduce new models annually through 2029 and commence production of next-generation electric vehicles (EVs) at its Busan plant starting in 2028. Nicolas Paris, CEO of Renault Korea, revealed these plans during a press conference in Seoul, as part of the Korean implementation of the "Future Ready" initiative by Renault Group.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Renault Korea aims to establish itself as a crucial hub for the group's D and E segment vehicles, emphasizing quality and premium design. The strategy includes the production of next-gen EVs at the Busan facility, located approximately 330 kilometers southeast of Seoul, beginning in 2028. The plant will play a central role in the company's focus on advanced manufacturing capabilities and quality assurance.
Paris highlighted Renault Korea's ambition to lead in quality, design, and development for flagship models within the group. The company's technology roadmap includes building a localized EV ecosystem in South Korea, with plans for battery production and advancements in software-defined vehicles (SDVs) and AI-based systems. Despite geopolitical tensions and protectionist trade policies affecting exports, Paris expressed confidence in the competitiveness of Renault Korea's products, citing their excellence in quality and driving performance.
The Busan plant is set to become a pivotal production base under this strategy, with a strong emphasis on maintaining high standards of quality. Paris acknowledged the challenges in returning to previous production levels, primarily driven by exports, but remained optimistic about the company's position in the market due to its outstanding product offerings in terms of noise, vibration, harshness, ride handling, and comfort.
