Seoul: Singer Psy's megahit "Gangnam Style" has surpassed 6 billion views on YouTube, becoming the most-watched K-pop music video of all time, his agency announced Monday. The music video reached this significant milestone last Friday, approximately 14 years following the song's initial release in July 2012.
According to Yonhap News Agency, P Nation reported that the video had previously exceeded 5 billion views in December 2023. The company highlighted that surpassing 6 billion views is not only a milestone in K-pop history but also illustrates the enduring appeal of content that resonates across various countries and generations.
During a concert held on Sunday, Psy acknowledged this achievement with his fans and promised to upload a new video on YouTube soon, expressing gratitude for their ongoing support. "Gangnam Style" catapulted Psy to international fame with its infectious rhythm, satirical portrayal of Seoul's affluent Gangnam district, and the iconic horse-riding dance.
The song reached No. 2 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart and its music video became the first K-pop video to achieve over 1 billion views on YouTube.
