Producer prices rise in Sept. on petchem, metal prices: BOK
SEOUL-- South Korea's producer prices rose for the third straight month in September on higher petrochemical and metal product prices, central bank data showed Monday.
The producer price index -- a barometer of future consumer inflation -- reached 102.81 in September, up 0.5 percent from a month earlier, according to the preliminary data from the Bank of Korea (BOK).
The BOK attributed the slight hike to a rise in prices of metal products as well as coal and petrochemical goods.
Year-on-year, the producer price index jumped 3.6 percent in September, marking the 11th consecutive month of gains.
Prices of coal and petrochemicals rose 4.4 percent in September from a month earlier while prices of metal products increased 2.3 percent during the same period.
The index that covers agricultural and fisheries goods, such as vegetables, rose 0.3 percent in September from a month earlier and service prices remained unchanged in September from a month earlier.
