Seoul: The presidential office on Thursday welcomed the Constitutional Court's decision to reject impeachments of the chief state auditor and senior prosecutors. The office issued a statement after the court unanimously dismissed impeachments of Choe Jae-hae, chair of the Board of Audit and Inspection, as well as Lee Chang-soo, chief of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors Office, and two other senior prosecutors.
According to Yonhap News Agency, "The Constitutional Court dismissed all four cases of impeachment motions that lacked clear grounds, sending a strong warning against the opposition party's excessive use of impeachment," the presidential spokesperson's office said in a release. The statement emphasized the need for public officials to promptly return to their duties to ensure the normalization of state affairs.
Choe Jae-hae had been impeached by the opposition-led National Assembly in December due to his alleged poor review of suspected irregularities surrounding the 2022 relocation of the presidential office and residence. The three prosecutors faced impeachment in the same month after accusations of failing to indict first lady Kim Keon Hee following an investigation into her alleged involvement in a stock price manipulation scheme.
