Seoul: The presidential office announced plans to convene a pan-government task force meeting aimed at addressing crimes such as employment scams and confinements that target South Korean nationals in Cambodia. National Security Adviser Wi Sung-lac will lead the meeting, which will include officials from the ministries of foreign affairs and justice, as well as the National Police Agency.
According to Yonhap News Agency, participants of the meeting will evaluate the recent increase in crimes involving South Koreans in Cambodia. The task force will explore measures to enhance the protection and safety of South Korean citizens through strengthened coordination with Cambodian authorities. The presidential office emphasized its commitment to enforcing laws against crime organizations to mitigate such threats.
The urgency of this issue has been highlighted by the torture and death of a South Korean college student in Cambodia in August. In response, President Lee Jae Myung ordered comprehensive diplomatic efforts to protect South Koreans from similar crimes, underscoring the importance of the upcoming task force meeting.
