Seoul: Kang Hoon-sik, the presidential chief of staff, has initiated action against suspected business abuses committed by retired employees of public institutions and state-run companies. During a meeting with chief presidential aides, Kang emphasized the longstanding issue of illegal and unjust preferential treatment for retirees, which has placed a burden on the public for decades.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Kang has directed the finance ministry to scrutinize such cases across all public institutions and develop strategies to eliminate these practices. The focus is particularly on a retirees' association at the state-run Korea Expressway Corp., which is accused of generating excessive profits through the improper operation of expressway service stations.
Kang underscored the necessity of restoring public trust by retrieving unjust proceeds and conducting investigations into illegal activities. The initiative aims to address and rectify the mismanagement and exploitation by former public employees in order to protect public interests.
