President Lee to Convene Meeting on Public Safety and Victim Rights

Seoul:President Lee Jae Myung is scheduled to convene a government meeting on Wednesday to address public safety measures and the protection of victims' rights in safety incidents.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the meeting will be the second plenary session of the national life and safety committee, which President Lee will preside over at Cheong Wa Dae. Discussions will focus on implementing measures to enhance public safety and uphold the rights of victims, as provided by the public life and safety law set to take effect next Wednesday.

The law, passed by the National Assembly on May 7, outlines the responsibilities of national and local governments to ensure citizens' safety rights, including the protection of lives and properties, and fostering safe living conditions. Additionally, the law mandates the protection of safety incident victims, their families, and witnesses.

Approximately 70 government officials, victims of safety incidents, and their family members are expected to attend the meeting. Officials will present the government's safety policies and initiatives aimed at reducing suicides, unattended deaths, industrial accidents, crowd-related incidents, and other fatal occurrences. The session will also provide an opportunity for feedback from victims and their families.
