Shanghai: President Lee Jae Myung arrived in Shanghai to visit a historic site associated with Korea's former provisional government and to participate in a startup business event in China's economic center.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee traveled to Shanghai from Beijing on the third day of his four-day state visit to China. His visit has already included summit discussions with Chinese President Xi Jinping. While in Beijing, Lee also held meetings with Chinese Premier Li Qiang and top legislator Zhao Leji, focusing on expanding economic cooperation and enhancing joint efforts for regional peace.

Later, Lee is expected to attend a welcome dinner hosted by Chen Jining, the Shanghai Municipal Party secretary. The dinner aims to concentrate on fostering exchanges between regional governments and discussing the protection and preservation of sites related to Korea's independence movement.

On the following day, Lee will participate in the Korea-China Venture Startup Summit, where he will engage with entrepreneurs from both countries' venture firms and startups. He will also visit the site that served as the headquarters of Korea's provisional government during Japan's colonial rule in the early 1900s, marking the centennial anniversary of its establishment.

Commemorating the 150th anniversary of independence hero Kim Koo's birth, who led the provisional government in Shanghai, is also on Lee's agenda. During his summit with Xi, Lee emphasized the shared history of Korea and China, highlighting their struggles for independence amid Japan's colonial expansion in the early 20th century.

Lee's visit to the historic site is set against the backdrop of an anticipated summit with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, as Seoul and Tokyo are reportedly organizing Lee's visit to Japan in the coming weeks. Lee is scheduled to return home later on Wednesday.
