Seoul: President Lee Jae Myung reaffirmed on Friday that he has no intention to seek reelection through constitutional revision, emphasizing that his reelection is impossible under the current Constitution. "I once again make it clear that I have no intention to seek reelection," he stated during a televised press conference.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee's remarks come amid repeated demands from the opposition bloc for the president to clarify his intentions. The opposition has accused him of harboring plans for reelection despite a constitutional clause that prohibits any changes to the presidential system from applying to the incumbent president at the time of a revision.

The press conference on Friday was the seventh held by President Lee since he assumed office in June 2025. Unlike most of his previous press conferences, which coincided with special occasions such as the first anniversary of his administration, this event was announced just three days prior and was considered rare. The timing of the conference coincides with a decline in Lee's approval ratings, which have recently dropped to the mid-30 percent range, particularly among younger voters.
